I have been getting alot of questions lately regarding low-cost or cheap domain registrations. As there are hundreds if not thousands of places you can register your domain at, it might be wise to take a step back and just look at this from a further vantage point before purchasing.
So you already have the domain name in mind and have checked it through a Go Daddy service, but now you are just baffled by all the choices you have. Here are a few pointers to take a look at when considering each registrar.
Trustworthy Company
Read through their website and read in details what the company focuses on. A company that upholds the clients interests and protects customers is always the best way to go. Remember that a domain registrar offering a cheaper domain registration maybe just a way to attract customers, so you should always check the renewal costs as well. Thats usually where the registrars make their money, off domain renewals and hosting renewals. The general mind-set is to use a reputable company and remember that if it is cheap in the beginning, that there's always a catch.
Private Registration
If you've been in the internet or e-commerce business for quite some time, private registrations are extremely important and usually is an add-on when registering for your domain. For those that are not familiar, private registrations helps to protect the owner's information (e.g. keep your address, telephone, emails and other info private), basically keeping the owner's info out of public eyes. When you apply for this add-on, the registrar/web host usually knows your info, nobody else. This is extremely important to safe guard you from hackers and people who are looking to seize personal data for other purposes.
SSL Certificate
An SSL Certificate basically protects users personal data and financial information. It is extremely important when doing business, some will even reject doing business with a site if it does not have an SSL certificate. The certificate ensures that information being passed here and there is always encrypted and safe for people to make transaction or send info to one another.
I hope this was helpful and is something which should always be on the back of everyone's mind when purchasing or registering for a domain. Here's a list we've created of the .com domains that are cheap and trustworthy.
