Afternic

Afternic.com was the very first domain marketplace and they remain a leader in the industry. The cost of domain names tends to be a bit higher than average because they allow sellers to price their own domains entirely. However, they do offer some unique services on their user-friendly and functional website that benefits both buyers and sellers alike.

One thing that Afternic.com is lacking is bulk domain registration. There is no place on their site to search for bulk domains which is surprising because otherwise the site is up to date with other domain marketplaces. In addition, there is no private registration option because you cannot actually register your domain at Afternic.com which is inconvenient for those looking for an all-inclusive package.

Afternic.com offers two unique services that they do particularly well. One is their parked domain package. Users can have Afternic.com create a parked domain with pay per click ads that make them money. A few other sites offer this service but Afternic.com does it particularly well. They are also known for their accurate and helpful domain appraisals. It costs $25 for an appraisal but for someone looking to sell and price domains it would be entirely worth it.

The prices at Afternic.com vary quite a bit. Sellers can price their domains at a minimum of $60 with no maximum. There is a nice tool that allows buyers to browse domains by price which is unique to this marketplace and it is a useful tool for anyone on a specific budget. The lowest cost section to browse is under $500 and the highest is over $10,000.

The main thing I do not like about Afternic.com is the number of domains that do not have a listed price. This forces the buyer to take an additional and inconvenient step in order to purchase a domain. The only other downside of this site is their lack of web hosting. They are a successful marketplace but having the option of hosting available would be beneficial.

Afternic.com is a great domain marketplace. It serves its purpose well and lists some of the highest number of domain names on any site. In addition, it has some of the highest traffic of any marketplace which makes it an ideal choice for sellers. The commissions they take are on par with other marketplaces at between 15 and 20 percent. Buyers can benefit from this functional site as well. It is not, however, the place to go if you are looking for a full package with registration, hosting, security, etc.
