These days, running your own business, website, blog - or even just searching for such a thing, requires having a domain name because of all the traffic on taken names and legal obligations associated with particular names - and while this seems like a harmless act while just browsing the web; do you know what you could really be searching?
There are currently over 15,000 businesses and 75 million users are looking to create "The Shadiest Domain Names." Previous to this explosion of Domain names, there were only roughly six common TLD's used, such as .com .edu .gov ,mil ,net and of course, .org
While these were the most commonly and safely used names around, as of 2013 ICANN, a website organization management began allowing a change in names for a fee, even if it meant allowing a slip in security for the sites as well As the number of TLD's have increased, so have the attackers; with the malicious attacks to the slurring of company names by adding TLDS such as .sucks .xxx .Hateseveryone
it has become damaging to the businesses in question as they're attacked. While the investigation has continued and we continue to research where the TLD's are coming from and work towards finding the malicious ones each day, it seems as if there may be no known fix at this time; as the websites are paid for by the contributor.
While browsing the internet, be sure to always check your TLD and make sure you're aware of the website you're on. Site's ending in untrustworthy TLD's could/or may be malicious and damaging. Truth be told, you never know who the "shady new neighbors" could be when it comes to searching your online resources!
